Product Review for BC Greenhouses in Utah

There is an overwhelming amount of residential greenhouses on the market.  Pretty or practical, big or small, aesthetic or function, cheap or expensive, the decisions about what to buy stack up.  At Monarch Greenhouse Solutions, we want to make sure you do not regret your decision.

Wood Framed Greenhouses are awesome because they fit a rustic aesthetic that isn’t always possible with metal structures.  They are also great budget options for people that want a simple start on their greenhouse journey.

Now not every wood greenhouse is the same.  Some can be bought at a big box store or online for less than $1000, others are completely customizable to fit your goals and desired aesthetic.

As with most specialty products, the more you spend on your greenhouse, the longer it will last, and the more you will get out of it.  We always recommend seeking out a higher quality product to make your investment last.

With all of that being said, here are some of our favorite wood framed greenhouses!

Growing Spaces® Growing Domes®

33′ Growing Dome®

Our go-to wood framed greenhouse is the Growing Dome®.  Based in Colorado, and driven by a need to withstand harsh winters and desert-like summers, Growing Spaces® crafted a line of geodesic dome greenhouses that are built to thrive.

From the outside, they look like a futuristic space station.  On the inside, an intricate web of wooden studs connected with metal hubs, forms an incredibly strong structure.  The design is naturally wind resistant and the polycarbonate glazing is high quality.

Utilizing passive solar design, with north wall insulation, automated ventilation, undersoil climate control, an insulated foundation wall, and an above ground pond, the Growing Dome® becomes an ecosystem that plants love.

These are specialty structures and are not the greenhouse for everybody.  But if you are a serious gardener that wants to grow year round in Utah and needs a structure designed to last, a Growing Dome® may be right for you.

Charley’s Heritage Wood Greenhouses

Alpine Insulated Cedar Greenhouse

As dealers of BC Greenhouses, we are excited to recommend one of their partner products.  These cedar greenhouses are a testament to the rich heritage of Charley’s greenhouse supply out of Mount Vernon, Washington.

Around 1975, Charley built and sold his first wood greenhouse and decided to pursue a greenhouse supply company.

Since then, they’ve joined with BC Greenhouse Builders first as a dealer and now as a partner company.  They design and produce two wooded greenhouse products that are made to order, and made to last.

The Alpine Insulated Cedar Greenhouse is the only wood greenhouse on the market that offers optional double pane safety glass, making it one of the most energy-efficient greenhouses available today.

The Woodland Cedar Greenhouse is a great entry level greenhouse with the quality of a structure built to last. Using real Tight Knot Red Cedar and 10mm twin-wall polycarbonate, this greenhouse will outlast any big box store greenhouse.

Charley’s wood framed greenhouse models boast USA hand-crafted charm with the ability to grow year round.  They are an investment that you can trust will give back overtime.

Frontier Rustic Designs

Frontier Rustic Designs Gable Dormer Greenhouse

If you are looking for a completely custom and personalized wood framed greenhouse, this is the company for you.  They build all of their greenhouses to order, meaning you’re not getting something off of a shelf.

If you go with them, you will get a one on one consultation, and full control over the size, material, and aesthetics of your greenhouse.  They have three designs to choose from, with customizations options that will make it feel like your own.

The other benefit of going with Frontier Rustic Designs, is that they build, deliver, and install your greenhouse.  All you have to do is share your needs and desires for the design, and prepare the spot where you want it to live.

We have no affiliation with this company because they build them in-house and deliver, but we love their designs, and are happy to recommend a USA based, high quality greenhouse manufacturer.

Sturdi Built

Sturdi Built Tudor Model

Hailing from Portland, Oregon, Sturdi Built has been building wood framed greenhouses since 1952. This family owned company sources their materials from sustainably harvested redwood and each greenhouse is handcrafted in the USA.

They have six greenhouse models to choose from, each with a range of sizes to best support your needs.  The designs are beautiful and don’t look like the typical wood framed greenhouse.  They are also designed to last longer than the average greenhouse.

They have starting prices listed on their website, with their cheapest model starting at $6,125.  That pricing represents quality craftsmanship and a structure built with purpose.

Cedar-Built

10′ Wide Cedar Greenhouse

Last on our list is Cedar-Built out of Abbotsford, BC in Canada.  Their greenhouse kit comes in five sizing options from 6’ wide up to 14’ wide with length options stretching up to 30’

Even though it is the same style on all models, their design is very beautiful.  They also offer accessories like portico roof extensions to make your greenhouse stand out from the rest.  From dutch doors and windows, to interior shelving and planter beds, Cedar-Built greenhouses can be customized to fit your needs and aesthetic.

They have been in business since the year 2000, and have several positive reviews, so you can trust that their greenhouse product is high quality.

Conclusion

These are some of the many wood greenhouse manufacturers that offer a product far superior to any big box store kit.  We haven’t built most of the products ourselves, but their styles, durability, and family values are all things that we support.

Most of the companies on this list are small and family owned.  If there is another company or product that you have used and recommend, let us know and we will look into them!

We typically don’t build wood framed greenhouses other than Growing Domes®, but that doesn’t mean we can’t.  If a wood greenhouse like one listed above fits your needs, but you aren’t sure about the installation process, feel free to contact us for a quote for professional installation services.
